Hong Kong social enterprise r é n is joining forces with local pastry expert Baptiste Villefranque to create a line of egg tarts made by Hong Kongers using local Hong Kong eggs to raise funds for Vocational Training Council’s Shine Skills Center.
Following the successful launch of locally sourced r é n eggs in May 2025, the Hong Kong social enterprise has sought ways to employ their new Yuen Long-farmed product to embody the message “be a good egg, be a good r é n.”
Lionel Bodros, chef and owner of Patisserie Millefeuille, worked with Baptiste to craft the dough sheets together, before Baptise and Fai Chan, pastry chef of The Hong Kong Golf and Tennis Academy, joined forces at an egg tart workshop on May 23 to craft the delicious pastries alongside instructors and students from VTC Shine.

In support of the brilliant work led by students of the Shine Skill Centre, the Artisan Egg Tarts (HKD35) will launch at the Shine Lions Club Café on Jun. 3 at 3PM, with proceeds going directly towards the vocational training centre.
Speaking on the launch of r é n’s very own homegrown egg tarts, founder Jo Soo-Tang says: “This campaign not only uplifts local agriculture but directly benefits our humanity programmes empowering disadvantaged youths by providing job opportunities in exclusive kitchens and more,”
“Our aim with this collaboration is to amplify leadership from within the special needs and disability community through great food, friendship and collective empowerment. Whether it’s for the farmers in Yuen Long or our friends at VTC Shine, join us in supporting our local community by being a good egg, and being a good ren.”

Soo-Tang founded r é n in February 2023 to uplift Hong Kong’s socially disadvantaged youths through gainful employment within the city’s hospitality and service sectors and activations promoting wellness and food.
The social enterprise’s work with the VTC Group is key in supporting the vital work led at the Shine Skills Centre offering support services and skills training to Hong Kong youth with disabilities.
