Hong Kong's current political situation might be scary enough, but we’ve still put together a list of Halloween happenings to add a touch of spooky to your palate.

Celebrate All Hallows’ Eve with the first family of fright, the Addams Family, at Aqua Spirit overlooking Victoria Harbour. This 31 October, the stunning bar above Aqua restaurant will be transformed into a house of horrors, complete with the cast from the Addams Family. Dance the night away with Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Cousin Itt and Thing. Guests will be offered a welcome glass of Veuve Clicquot on arrival, followed by complimentary glasses of bubbly as the clock strikes each hour, served by the Addams Family themselves, with their theme tune in full swing. There will be a dance performance at 10:30pm, followed by music from resident DJ Abel Rogers. Professional make-up artists will also be on hand to add special flourishes to guests’ costumes.

Trading in fright for funk, Le Comptoir Group’s contemporary izakaya Silencio will be throwing a groovy party this Halloween inspired by Austin Powers’ Goldmember movie. Expect plenty of gold and a dress code to match along with tunes by DJ Kai Djuric. Guests who come dressed in either gold or black will receive a glass of sake on the house.

Run with the ponies this Halloween at Bueno Aires Polo Club with a special edition of the Argentine eatery’s Rock Club. From 10pm until late, the stately steakhouse will be transformed into a club setting, with the expert bar team turning out exclusive “rocktails” for costumed guests. Rock to live band music while downing a few of these special cocktails. There’s even a rocking awesome prize for the best costume of the night.

The Halloween Edition at Behind Bars

Behind Bars capitalises on the spooky after-hours ambience at Tai Kwun with a Halloween party featuring libations all shaken and stirred inside a bar located in a series of interlinking former prison cells. DJ Fire Aux will start pumping up the hip-hop volume at 9pm, and partygoers can enjoy a range of cocktails, champagne, wine and spirits either à la carte or free flow.

Parents can let out a collective sigh and enjoy lunch at FRITES while the kids are being entertained by a magic show and costume competition. Bring your little ones to one of FRITES’ four locations (Causeway Bay, Central, Quarry Bay or Wanchai) and make sure they come decked out in full Halloween garb to potentially win a fantastic prize. Spooky dim sum treats at YUM CHA

Halloween at YUM CHA Hong Kong

Insta-fave dim sum restaurant YUM CHA has done it again, this time with adorable and very photogenic treats inspired by Halloween. From now until the end of the month, you can munch on BBQ pork finger puffs ($49/3) shaped like zombie fingers, steamed shrimp dumplings ($49/3) in the shape of eyeballs, steamed mummy sausage buns ($49/2), crispy cream prawns ($89/4) that look like golden mummies, bat-shaped crispy toast with sweet-and-sour sauce ($76/4), skull-shaped baked cheesy chicken, mushroom and baked bean puffs ($69/1) and a very creepy mochi chocolate and peanut dessert ($28) with a zombie that could pop out if you’re not quick off the mark.
