We have all our fingers and toes crossed that 2023 will be the year when all COVID restrictions are lifted, and with that happy thought in mind, here’s our guide to celebrating New Year’s Eve with all the best food and drink out there, whether it be at a glitzy free-flow party or snuggled up on the sofa at home with a sushi platter in one hand and a beer in the other.

Aqua

These to-die-for views are what’s in store at Aqua’s free-flow Welcome to the Future New Year’s Eve Party. There are several party options, depending on your budget and plans for the night. You can go for just the rooftop countdown party, rocking the night away to the tune of live performances and DJs, or go all out and book to include the five-course dinner beforehand, where slow-cooked lobster and Kurobuta pork with foie gras and truffle take centre stage.

Countdown Cruise

Although the return of the epic New Year’s Eve fireworks display over Victoria Harbour has not yet been confirmed, the New Year’s Eve Countdown Cruise on red-sailed junk Aqualuna would make for a very special NYE experience whether or not sparks fly. Each ticket include two drinks (sparkling wine, house wine, beer, soft drinks and juices) and free-flow canapés courtesy of Aqua and Hutong.

Foxglove

Live music is back, baby! Old-school jump blues and swing jazz musicians Bloodest Saxophone are braving the HK travel requirements and coming all the way from Japan to entertain guests with their Tokyo Style New Year’s Eve performance at swanky speakeasy Foxglove. To date, the band’s leader, sax star Koda “Young Corn” Shintaro, and his members have released 12 albums and appeared on 18 compilations across the globe. You can enjoy a sumptuous multi-course Cantonese dinner menu by Chef Chan paired with premium wines before the countdown or head here just for vintage champagne free-flow toe-tapping post-dinner. Black tie dress code.

Grand Hyatt Steakhouse

For one night only, Grand Hyatt Steakhouse at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong is set to be transformed into mysterious Maison Rouge. Behind the red curtains, a decadent dinner tasting menu awaits, with festive canapés to start, followed by dressed spanner crab with Oscietra caviar, grilled carabinero prawn with squid-ink orzo, M5 Wagyu sirloin with black truffle and seared foie gras, a surprise “Checkerboard” dessert (fitting to the black-and-red theme) and petits fours. During the free-flow countdown party with live music, “supper” will be served in the form of rouge et noire burgers – individual crab cake and Wagyu. Come dressed to the nines (black tie required).

Grand Majestic Sichuan

Possibly the most opulent NYE party in town, The Fiasco at Grand Majestic Sichuan is described as “a fiery fever dream”, an immersive experience where diners will be transported back in time to the neon-soaked 852 of the 70s and 80s, “where the likes of tuxedoes, feathered gowns and bold-shoulder blazers replace the traditions of the outside world”. The ticket price is inclusive of a “showstopping” Sichuan menu and infinite pours of bubbly, with the finale taking place on the outdoor terrace for a countdown like no other.

LPM Restaurant & Bar

LPM transports us to St-Tropez with its Nuit Blanche, or White Night Party, on the 31st. The white theme extends from the dress code to a backdrop of white tablecloths, crockery, flowers, balloons and decorations. The four-course dinner menu features a choice of fresh and flavourful Mediterranean dishes by Chef Maurizio Pace, all meant for sharing. A seafood tower, chicken and foie gras ballotine, roasted turbot and langoustine ravioli with truffle (pictured) are amongst the recommended options. Riveria-chic DJs are on board too.

Salisterra

Salisterra is another super option for a New Year’s Eve meal with a view. There are early and late seating options here, with the four- and six-course set dinner menus designed by Executive Chef Cary Docherty packed with refined Mediterranean flavours. On both menus, you’ll find lobster consommé, Jerusalem artichoke and white truffle risotto, a choice of roasted turbot or Wagyu beef fillet for the main and a dessert of chocolate, coffee and hazelnut, with the six-course baby also featuring starters of Magaki oyster with caviar and seared scallop tartare.

sen-ryo

If an evening of Netflix and sushi on the sofa sounds like your idea of New Year’s Eve heaven, sen-ryo’s got you covered with its festive takeaway sushi sets. There are two options – feeding either 3–4 or 6–8 people – and both include overflowing platters of sashimi and sushi, Caesar salad with lobster and avocado and either Hokkaido cheesecake or tiramisu for dessert. The larger set also comes with platters of seared sushi and rolls as well as a bottle of Takizawa Junmai Ginjo sake.

The Silveri Hong Kong–MGallery

New Lantau Island hotel The Silveri Hong Kong–MGallery is marking its first holiday season in style with a fab New Year’s Eve Fairy Tale Dinner, a cross-venue celebration beginning with a festive buffet at modern bistro The Enclave and all-you-can-eat sushi and sashimi at FRESH, before switching it up to The Pavilion’s outdoor lawn space, which is set to be transformed into an oyster bar with BBQ stations grilling the likes of Duroc pork belly, Japanese scallops, tiger prawns, salmon and beef teriyaki.

The Sixteenth

This is another chance to don your whitest of white gladrags as The Sixteenth plays host to The White Carnival on New Year’s Eve, returning for a second year following its sold-out first edition. Taking place at The Sixteenth’s atmospheric outdoor terrace, Tempo Tempo, guests with a guaranteed dinner reservation from 8pm onwards on the 31st at either flamboyant Italian trattoria La Favorita, contemporary sushi restaurant Honjokko or funky temakeria TMK Funk & Rolls can gain access to The White Carnival festivities for a reduced price. Included in the countdown party are free-flow drinks (that also means bottomless champagne from 10pm till midnight), savoury nibbles, mini sandwiches and sweet treats.

Terrace by LQV

A réveillon is a traditional French dinner – lengthy and lavish, sometimes lasting all night long – on the evening preceding either Christmas or New Year’s Day; we’re lucky to be able to experience this tradition in Hong Kong at al-fresco newcomer Terrace by LQV in Stanley. The restaurant is showcasing a four-course Réveillon menu with luxurious ingredients aplenty. The menu commences with champagne and canapés, followed by grand French dishes like oyster vichyssoise, escargots, truffle pigeon pithivier and Mont Blanc.

Zuma

An exclusive New Year’s Eve edition of Zuma’s famed Yashoku Night Brunch featuring two-hour free-flow bubbly and endless Japanese delicacies is on the cards on the 31st at the sixth-floor lounge and bar, followed by the eatery’s extravagant free-flow countdown party, this year with a masquerade theme. In addition to bottomless Veuve Clicquot, beer, soft drinks and two cocktails, glam decor and exciting live entertainment are part of the deal. A more low-key but equally enticing option is to enjoy Zuma’s New Year’s Eve dinner menu at the fifth-floor restaurant space before the shindig. On this one-night-only menu, Executive Chef Quynh Brown has chosen to showcase the most premium seasonal ingredients in dishes including Gillardeau oyster with Kristal caviar and yuzu pearls, Japanese Wagyu tataki with black truffle, A4 Wagyu sirloin and a top-notch selection of sushi and sashimi.
