The stress of achieving those coveted Michelin stars is just the cherry on top of what has already been one of the most challenging years in dining history. However, The Michelin Guide emphasises that their 2021 version of the guide aims to celebrate the courage, resilience and creativity of the F&B industry during these unprecedented times.

In a virtual ceremony on Facebook, The Michelin Guide announced a total of 69 starred restaurants in Hong Kong and 18 in Macau. Thankfully, all three-starred restaurants from 2020’s guide kept their trio of stars.

There are 10 restaurants that have received new stars, with restaurants L’Envol and Tate Dining Room being awarded two Michelin stars for the first time. New restaurant Andō, which launched during the height of the pandemic, was awarded one star, as was 20-year-old brand yè shanghai after their move to K11 MUSEA. Other one-star newcomers include kappo-style restaurant Zuicho, beloved izakaya and yakitori specialist Yardbird, iconic Cantonese institution The Chairman, London import The Araki and freshly refurbished Man Ho at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. In Macau, Wing Lei Palace at Wynn Palace was awarded a star.

Michelin also presented their new Michelin Green Star in recognition of restaurants that are committed to sustainable gastronomy. Foodie Forks 2019 Editors’ Choice Best New Restaurant winner Roganic was awarded a green star, as was IFT Educational Restaurant in Macau.
