If you're a lover of almond milk and head to the supermarket every time you have a craving, why not make it at home instead? Making it at home is entirely organic and reduces your chances of consuming added preservatives.

Here are some delightfully easy recipes to whip up almond milk at home in a jiffy:

Classic Almond Milk: The quintessential almond milk is not flavoured separately. It is made from just three ingredients:

Ingredients:

    1 cup of soaked almonds

    3-5 cups of chilled water

    A strainer or nut bag

Procedure: First, soak the almonds for four to five hours, or overnight. Soaking ensures that the almonds are adequately plump and can be easily blended. Then, strain the almonds and rinse them clean. Put them in a blender, add the water, and turn it on for three to four minutes, or until you see a smooth, creamy mixture. Then, with the help of a strainer or a nut bag, separate the almond pulp from the milk. You can put the almond milk into the blender and turn it up once more to get a thicker concoction. All you have to do now is pour it out and enjoy! The omega-3 fatty acids present in almonds are responsible for lowering the bad cholesterol in blood as well as helping with weight management.

Chocolate Almond Milk: If you are starting to get bored of the natural flavour of almond milk, it is time to mix things up a little bit. Chocolate is an easy place to start, so go ahead and add some to your almond milk.

Ingredients

    1 cup of soaked almonds

    3-5 cups of water

1 cup of dairy-free dark chocolate

Procedure: Simply follow the recipe for making almond milk, as above. Soak almonds in water overnight, blend it, and then sieve it. On the side, you need to melt the dark chocolate in a double water bath. Once you have melted the chocolate, pour about half a cup of almond milk into the molten chocolate and whisk properly. This process will ensure that there are no chocolate clumps. Next, pour the chocolate-almond milk mixture into the remaining almond milk and whisk thoroughly. Your thick and delicious chocolate milk is ready. Besides almonds, the presence of chocolate is extremely beneficial. It stimulates the secretion of happy hormones that alleviate anxiety and depression.

Coconut Almond Milk: Another twist to regular almond milk is adding coconut water to it.

Ingredients

    1 cup of soaked almonds

3-5 cups of chilled coconut water

Procedure: Simply follow the recipe for making almond milk, as above. Soak almonds in water overnight, blend it, and then sieve it.Take the soaked almonds and blend using coconut water. It will add a different flavour and is a highly hydrating drink, owing to the presence of coconut water. Also, unlike regular water, coconut water contains some salts and minerals that help replenish the nutrition that is lost due to perspiration.

Vanilla Almond Milk:  Quell those ice cream cravings by turning your almond milk into a yummy vanilla- flavoured drink.

Ingredients

    1 cup soaked almond milk

    3-5 cups of chilled water

    2-4 pitted dates

1 vanilla bean or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Procedure: Make your almond milk as you normally do by soaking raw almonds overnight and following it up with the blending and straining. Then, add the dates and the vanilla bean. Blend it until it is thick and creamy. If you don't have vanilla beans at home, just replace it with vanilla extract, and it will taste equally delightful. Vanilla has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe joint and muscle pains. It also helps lower bad cholesterol in the blood, thereby keeping your heart healthy.

Cinnamon Almond Milk: You might also choose to spice up your almond milk with a hint of cinnamon.

Ingredients

    1 cup of soaked almonds

    3-5 cups of water

    1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Procedure: Whip up some almond milk  and sieve it. Then, after you have strained it, put it in the blender again, add the cinnamon, and blend it on full speed for another minute. Cinnamon has a host of benefits, such as reducing risks of cardiovascular diseases and lowering blood sugar levels.

Quick tip: If you don't have the time to soak almonds overnight, consider soaking them in hot water for an hour. Doing so will make them soften quickly so they are easier to blend.
