Header image: takeaway durian afternoon tea set from Hotel ICON
With the third wave of COVID-19 in full force here in Hong Kong and government restrictions banning dine-in at restaurants post-6pm, we’ll all be eating mostly at home for the forseeable future. We’re lucky to have so many great takeaway offers available, many with discounts (get some exercise picking up the food while you’re at it).
Here are our top takeaway picks:
22 Ships’ sharing sets
Also available for delivery, we love modern tapas bar 22 Ships’ three takeaway options, perfect for groups.
First up is a Spanish DIY barbecue set (from $1,998 for 4) that includes Spanish octopus with mojo verde sauce, XXL carabineros prawns, 90-day-aged Rubia Gallega beef and more for grilling en casa. There’s also the family-style 22 Ships En Tu Casa menu (from $1,988 for 3–4),featuring a wide selection of classic tapas, grilled seafood and roast meats. Or you can customise the à-la-carte menu based on whatever you fancy.

The Butchers Club Burger’s new items & sets
Get 20% off self-pick-up orders and 15% off takeaway orders via OpenRice for some tempting new items at The Butchers Club Burger. If you’re craving a burger but not all the calories, go for the Slim Shady set ($68), which includes a single-meat-patty burger plus fries and a drink. The Parmesan-dusted fry stack ($38) is a neat little add-on or snack in itself. This stacked bundle comes in two versions: classic with truffle oil and truffle mayo and Asian inspired with wasabi powder and wasabi mayo. Then there are two group combos, either the Date Night ($238), which comes with two classic burgers (with the Impossible burger an option), loaded fries, chicken wings and two drinks, or The 4Some ($278), serving, you guessed it, four. Delivery is also available via foodpanda.

The kung pao water chestnuts premium set is a great meat-free option. See here for the full menu.

HABITŪ’s Rosemantic Summer
We all need a little romance right now, right? HABITŪ table shops are celebrating summer with their annual Rosemantic Summer promotion, highlighting rose-themed handcrafted drinks and desserts. We enjoyed both the iced rosa espresso shakerato ($54), sweetened with rose honey, and the açai rosa soy latte macchiato ($52), served hot. For dessert, we’d recommend going for the strawberry rosy tiramisu ($78), garnished with rose petals. And when it comes to some savoury counterparts to these floral numbers, go nice with the vegan avocado tahini salad ($88), a bevy of organic quinoa, kale, cabbage, radish, carrot, chickpeas, grilled pumpkin and pomegranate, or naughty with the “best in town” carbonara ($138; currently $68 takeaway) – this is indeed decadently creamy and rich. The best bits are that takeaway orders get 15% off and selected signature dishes are available for only $68 via pick-up; keep your eyes peeled here for special flash offers. Yat Tung Heen’s claypot dishes
The highlights of Michelin-starred Yat Tung Heen’s takeaway menu are the claypot dishes, each served in a reusable clay pot (and there’s never been a better time to do some of your own culinary experimenting at home with these little pots), including steamed rice with pan-fried chicken and mandarin peel ($298) and wok-fried silver cod with onion, ginger and preserved bean curd paste ($288). The mini poon choi ($980 for 4–6) also comes highly recommended; this is a traditional Cantonese casserole packed with fresh prawns, roasted goose, poached chicken, taro, turnip, fried bean curd sheets, black mushrooms, mud carp fish balls, lotus root and tofu – great for sharing with loved ones chez soi.
