We’ve seen some creative afternoon teas in our time, but this one held at Hotel ICON’s The Market buffet restaurant truly takes the cake.

Devised by executive chef Danny Ho, also known as the “Durian Prince” owing to his passion for the pungent Southeast Asian fruit, three rare varieties of volcanic durian from Indonesia have been brought to Hong Kong for the first time as part of this seasonal three-course afternoon tea set, available 3PM to 5PM daily from now until Jul. 7.

Diners now have the special chance to sink their teeth into Java Bawor King volcano durian, Sumatra Moonlight volcano durian, and Bali Sulawesi MT volcano durian, all known for their thick, silky flesh and optimal 8:2 flesh-to-seed ratio.

Also part of the tea set is a starter of gado-gado salad with lobster, followed by a sumptuous main course of seafood hotpot with Indonesian volcano durian spicy broth, a Sichuan-tinged soup base loaded with oyster, scallop, octopus, prawn, and abalone.

If that’s not enough durian action for you, six inventive durian- and pandan-flavoured desserts feature in the set too, including durian burnt Basque cheesecake, durian pandan cake with snowy Cheddar cheese, and coconut durian choux.

This three-course afternoon tea is priced at HKD418 for one and HKD698 for two on weekdays and HKD468 for one and HKD798 for two on weekends and public holidays
