The first of the three Thai hotspots to grace this month’s list, Mama Tiger Noodles has opened with a bang on Kau U Fong in Central, a partnership between the Trattoria Felino team and chef Thanit Changchai, who used to head up Bangkok’s famed boat noodle chain ThongSmith. Thai soup noodles like Wagyu boat noodles (HKD158) and khao soi (HKD148) are the selling points of this spot, but we’ve also heard great things about the funky appetisers, from the tom yum wontons (HKD128) to the larb jellyfish (HKD118)

It takes a lot for a new ramen eatery to stand out from the pack in Hong Kong, and that new ramen joint is Ginza Kagari, coming in at a very respectable number 3 on Tablelog as the best ramen in Tokyo. The daily queues for this brand’s creamy, rich chicken paitan ramen (HKD98) are legendary. We always have to order a side of the grilled chashu pork rice (HKD38) to complete our ramen feast here with even more meaty carbs.

The second Thai spot on this month’s hit list, Thonglor channels the essence of Bangkok’s rustic street-food culture. Offering a hip film-themed design and friendly Thai staff, this Kowloon City eatery presents a flavour-packed menu of authentic Thai dishes that keep us coming back for more. The papaya salad with shrimp or fermented fish (HKD78), stir-fried flat noodles with Wagyu beef (HKD108), pork or Wagyu beef boat noodles (HKD88/HKD98), and crab omelette (HKD148) are some of the biggest hits so far.

Soho’s Middle Eastern food scene just got a major upgrade with the launch of Omnia on Staunton Street. Omnia is the brainchild of Nadim Hamze, the experienced Lebanese chef-founder of Sumac, which took home our Foodie Forks 2024 Best Middle Eastern Restaurant award. A flurry of hot and cold mezze plates make up about half the restaurant’s menu, with several bites, including the zucchini baba ganoush (HKD105) and salmon kibbeh (HKD280), displaying creative twists on classic recipes. The mixed grill (HKD820) of chicken taouk, beef kebab, lamb kofta, and lamb chops is the pinnacle of Lebanese meatiness.

Standing out from Hong Kong’s booming bistro crowd is Le Colvert in Sai Ying Pun, already making a name for itself with its traditional French duck dishes. The elegantly appointed restaurant is led by chef Guillaume Sejourné, who sources top-quality Challans ducks from France to star in his showstopping traditional pressed duck (HKD1,988 for 2–4) dish. Smoked duck breast with mango and avocado (HKD138) and duck leg confit (HKD188) are just a few of the more affordably priced duck-focused highlights here.

8. Ros Jad

Although Ros Jad has received mixed reviews since its opening (mainly for the long wait times), we can’t neglect to mention this neon-lit Thai restaurant overseen by heavy-hitting chef Gigg Kamol, the victor of the Iron Chef Thailand competition in 2015. Chef Giggol’s take on the fiery Thai staple of basil minced pork over rice (from HKD84), aka pad kaprow, is the deserving signature here; the chef mixes things up through his use of century egg and Chinese pork sausage to give the dish a unique local touch.

Charming to the max, self-described “coastal casual eatery” gróa has been brought to Repulse Bay by the team behind nüte as an extension of the brand’s wholesome, healthy approach. A sanctuary of sorts, this chilled spot caters to one and all, with menus ranging from Aussie-style all-day brunch plates to sunset bites the likes of smoked paprika baby squid and miso black garlic confit flatbread (the dinner menu is set to debut by autumn 2025). The kids’ menu deserves a shout-out in its own right, swapping the ubiquitous chicken nuggets and chips for teriyaki chicken with mixed grains and seasonal greens.

The izakaya’s menu blends Japanese and Korean culinary traditions with Western plating techniques, with the chefs incorporating seasonal flowers and fruits, artisanal teas, and premium spirits into their innovative creations. The go-to here is the Flat Iron Deluxe (HKD138), a perfectly caramelised and seared smash burger that features six ounces of Prime Black Angus loaded up with American cheese, bacon, house pickles, crispy onion, and Old Bay mayo. For those with smaller appetites, try opting for the Junior Burger (HKD100) as part of Flat Iron’s lunch set alongside fries, salad, and a drink.

Hailing from its namesake city in China, Michelin-starred Chengdu Yan has unveiled an outpost in Central. Chef Wayne Cheung’s menu at this contemporary restaurant uniquely marries the bold flavours of Sichuan with Cantonese’s refined culinary traditions. Seafood dishes play a major role here, from chilled razor clams with smoky chilli dressing (HKD268) to golden crispy mandarin fish (HKD888) smothered in Sichuan chilli oil, but there is one meaty masterpiece that we also can’t wait to sink our teeth into: the aromatic smoked pigeon (HKD138) infused with Da Hong Pao pepper and lemongrass.
