Female winemaker wine-pairing menu at Roganic & Aulis


Throughout the month, Simon Rogan’s Michelin-starred Roganic Hong Kong and development kitchen Aulis Hong Kong will offer a specially curated wine menu showcasing female winemakers from around the world, which can be ordered alongside the restaurants’ lunch and dinner tasting menus. The menu shines a light on globally acclaimed female winemakers such as Samantha O’Keefe of Lismore Estate Vineyards in Greyton, South Africa, Spain’s Christina Forner, the CEO of winery Marqués de Cáceres in Rioja, and Rumiko Moriki of sake specialist Moriki Brewery in Mie Prefecture, Japan.

JIA Group celebrates International Women’s Day


JIA Group is celebrating female talent across HK with a panel at lovely French restaurant Louise featuring women such as Dominique Backhouse, MD at Companion Communications, Tracy Kwan, VP of marketing at Pernod Ricard Asia, and SCMP senior reporter Laura Westbrook. Also on the cards are a luxury raffle and guest bar shifts by top female mixologists like Monsen Ip from Back Bar and The Diplomat’s LZ Zapanta. Proceeds on the night will be donated to Teen’s Key, which works towards improving the lives of vulnerable young women and girls in the city.

7 local female entrepreneurs cook for a good cause at Tate Dining Room

Seven inspiring women from around Hong Kong are set to join Chef Vicky Lau of Michelin-starred Tate Dining Room to strut their culinary stuff in support of BEYOND Foundation, which helps children with special needs. BEYOND was started by celeb yoga instructor Margaret Chung, who will serving up her childhood favourite crispy taro spring roll with pork and carrot filling. Other notable participants include Yenn Wong, the founder of JIA GROUP, who will be showcasing her dish of fermented red bean-curd-braised pork belly with black fungus, inspired by her grandfather’s old Malaysian recipe, and Sarah Heller MW – Asia-Pacific’s youngest Master of Wine – who will be whipping up her very own spaghetti carbonara with an Asian twist. Shout-out to our partner in F&B crime Charmaine Mok, the Editorial Director of Dining for Hong Kong Tatler, for her delectable-sounding French quail with maple pancake and raspberry.

Each for Equal: The Vibe Tribe at Uma Nota

Meraki Hospitality Group is partnering with Cristina McLauchlan of The Vibe Tribe to host an afternoon rocking female achievements in Hong Kong. Uma Nota will welcome guests to eat, drink and network whilst listening to six fierce women tell their stories of how they actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions and celebrate women for who they are. Speakers include Olivia Cotes-James, founder and CEO of LUÜNA Naturals, Natalie Chow, founder of Lacess, and Gabrielle Kirstein, founder and executive director of charity Feeding Hong Kong, with a portion of all proceeds from the event donated to Feeding HK.

Mercedes me Store x Lify Mindful Escape

First discovered at last year’s Food’s Future Summit, Lify Wellness, a tech-innovation company focusing on health and wellness, is partnering with Mercedes me Store this month to set up a pop-up wellness café offering
personalised herbal hot and cold drinks made with the Lify Smart Herbal Brewer. Bevvies include infusions of both Eastern and Western herbal blends as well as a number of creative mocktails and tea/herbal lattes. As part of this holistic wellness experience, a guided tea meditation programme created in conjunction with meditation and wellness coach Stephanie Luo will help guests to take it slow.

VEDA x Alibi Bar & Kitchen (Sydney) Veg Off

Alibi Bar & Kitchen Sydney

It’s Ovolo Hotels at the ready with this plant-based collaboration between HK’s VEDA at Ovolo Central and Sydney’s Alibi Bar & Kitchen at Ovolo Woolloomooloo. Each two-dish course on the limited-time menu spotlights a key ingredient – for instance, kimchi is the focus of the first course, with Chef Hetty McKinnon of VEDA filling her popular momos with kimchi, seasonal veg and cheese, while Alibi chef Matthew Kenney’s fermented counterpart is set to be kimchi dumplings crafted using green-hued coconut and coriander wrappers and served with ginger foam.

Wagyu katsu sando pop-up at Wagyumafia

Ordinarily a members-only restaurant, Wagyumafia will open itself up for one night to show off its Wagyu sarnies to those hunting for a taste of premium Ozaki beef. The menu includes a striploin version (first created for David Beckham), a 100-day dry-aged striploin and Waygymafia’s signature chateaubriand katsu sando. Seats are limited.

Every Saturday from now until the end of May, dim sum lovers can learn from the master at Michelin-starred Ming Court. Head Dim Sum Chef Tse Sun Fuk will lead step-by-step, hands-on demos of the making of four of the restaurant’s signature dim sum items, which this month include steamed New Caledonia blue prawn dumpling with bamboo shoot, steamed scallop dumpling with morel mushroom in beetroot wrap, steamed vegan Omnipork bun with pickled Chinese cabbage and deep-fried lava hawthorn ball with strawberry jam and rice crisp. And the best bit is that you can eat up all the goodies at Ming Court following the workshop.

On the back of Cordis, Hong Kong’s Perfume Trees guest mixologist pop-up at Alibi bar, the local gin brand will next be making an appearance at the hotel’s acclaimed Cantonese restaurant Ming Court in the form of a tasting menu by Executive Chef Li Yuet Faat paired with Perfume Trees cocktails by Alibi’s award-winning mixologist, Leo Cheung. In this unique partnership for Chinese cuisine, diners can expect such creative dishes as smoked baby pigeon with Chinese tea leaves, cinnamon and camphor wood paired with Cheung’s Sun and Moon cocktail, mixed with homemade tangerine pu’er tea soda, to complement the smokiness of the bird. Hot on the heels of ThinkWine’s successful collaboration with Jim Lofdahl of Frantzén’s Kitchen last month comes the wine bar’s new series of one-night-only pop-ups with chefs from acclaimed Hong Kong restaurants, who will be pairing both their signature and takeover-exclusive small bites with ThinkWine’s impressive selection of wine. This month, the chef of the moment is Agustin Balbi of Japanese-European HAKU, showcasing dishes such as his signature Hokkaido uni brioche and abalone rice caldoso alongside off-menu items like a chicken katsu sando with wasabi mayo and Japanese tuna with tapioca chips and roasted sesame.

The fabulous local chef duo of Ray Choi and Devon Hou are back at Test Kitchen this month following their successful “If I Were in Charge” pop-up last month. Over the years, the chefs have worked and crossed paths at top HK restaurants like Mandarin Grill + Bar, L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon and Tate Dining Room & Bar. For this latest crossover menu, dubbed the “Local Ingredient Challenge”, the two chefs pay tribute to local farmers, producers and flavours. Expect the likes of local threadfin with green Sichuan pepper, with the fish itself straight from Aberdeen Fish Market, hawthorn duck paired with Shanghai noodles from Chan Ming Kee – one of the oldest noodle factories in the city – Kowloon City beef with local Tai Wai Beer and a dessert made with HK Farm Milk and sago. It’s back-to-back pop-ups at Test Kitchen this month, with the second showcasing the dynamic skills of Chef Walter el Nagar, a Milan native, who has taken Geneva by storm with his Fiskebar, ramen bar Susuru and his most celebrated and unique eatery Le Cinquième Jour. Open five days a week, on the fifth day, the same menu at Le Cinquième Jour is served for free to less fortunate people in the community. A social activist who has done pop-ups around the world, Chef el Nagar’s Test Kitchen menu pushes the culinary boundaries, focusing on hot techniques such as preservation, fermentation and conservation. Highlights include homemade ciabatta with home-cultured butter, almond cheese with aubergine and preserved leaves and a pork jowl and prawn carpaccio sweet-and-sour dish with black vinegar and mandarin.
